Food Review Episode 42: OG Lemak

ivanfenzelyyang

Finally, after 1 month plus of like ups and downs, managed to get this!!

I have been wanting to review this for like damn long!

I heard the queue was about 1.5 hours, so decided to like head down earlier. I reached the store 10 minutes before it was open.

The opening hours are from 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 8.30pm. However, there are really limited amount of nasi lemak serve during each meal time, so the best is to come earlier.

I was the 6th person in the queue, and at 11am, the store open and took it's first order. 10 minutes later, I placed my ordered and ordered 3 different sets

  1. OG Lemak

  2. Chicken Rendang

  3. Beef Rendang

The wait to collect the food was slightly long, was close to 20 mins. But is it also because the chicken is fried on the spot when you ordered them and thus making it taste better.

All the meal come with the twice steamed rice, fried eggs, 2 types of chili and also the mains.

The rice was fragrant, and fluffy. It really does taste special and unique, like not other rice. You know how some of the rice is filled with the coconut flavour, but not for this. I think cause Chef uses like 11 ingredients for the rice, so like the flavours are quite indescribable, like you know it is not normal rice, but you cannot tell what is it like taste off.

The chili are not very spicy. I didn't know that it was two chilies only to the end, and it goes well with the rice. I just hope that it can have some kick.

Now going into the main dishes, the fried chicken. I ordered like 2 fried chicken. The first one was eaten by my partner and the skin was quite tough. It was quite hard to cut into the skin. It is not like the crispy hard. But when Jian Wei ate the second fried chicken, it was okay, like crispy one. So it was like quite a different experience for me.

As for the chicken rendang, it was nicer than the fried chicken I think. The rendang is much thinner than normal one. The rendang are not very spicy as well. The chicken was much more tender in the rendang. but of course, there are difference in the chicken , because one is steamed and one is fried, so abit cannot compare.

As for the beef rendang, it is also thinner than normal rendang. However, the beef is slightly chewy and abit more tough than expected. I though it will be like melt in your mouth kind. I don't really taste like the rempah taste. It is not as fragrant as I thought it would be too. I would say that the beef is the last choice I would have.

Food Rating:

OG Lemak: 3.75/5

Chicken Rendang: 4.25/5

Beef Rendang: 3.25/5
