Food Review Episode 43: Farangse

ivanfenzelyyang

Well well, it's been long since I did a food review! I know I have been gone for a short time, cause I haven't been able to head out to eat!

This time round, we went to Farangse located at Greenwood area, just beside National Junior College.

So you will think like what kind of restaurant is Farangse all about. “Farangse” means French in Thai and defines the food we serve – French cuisine with the addition of a few Thai dishes and regional specialties from Issan (North-Eastern Thailand). A fusion restaurant – we are not. For the reason that we do not combine culinary traditions nor techniques into a single dish.

What it really means, it's that it is not a fusion type of restaurant and it serve two different kind of cuisine in it.

We went there to celebrate my brother birthday, and it was pretty full! We did have a reservation at 7.30pm.

The seating was pretty cosy and very family style and with a tinge of Thai ambience in it.

The sourdough was served warm. I love the sourdough, it was crunchy outside and fluffy inside, but still St. Regis sourdough is still the best!

They charged about $4 for the sourdough if I am not wrong.

We ordered the escargot for appetiser. It was very nice, and I love it when it is so garlicy and the escargot just absorb all the olive oil and the garlic flavour inside. The escargot was nicely cooked and not overcooked any all and of course, as you can see, it is a decent size.

Both my grandmother and sister in law ordered the black cod fish and chips. You can see that the batter is very thin and you can even see through to the skin of the cod fish. The batter is very flaky and it just peel off from the meat. The fish was really fresh and not having the muddy fishy taste to it. I think that is really the plus point of the whole dish and the rest was pretty average and normal. This is really my first time, seeing a cod fish is being use in a fish and chips dish.

I had the Grilled Iberico pork, or it's like a honey glazed pork. The pork was pretty tender and it was just a right amount of chew. The pork really taste like a honey glazed. The skin was sweet, not too overpowering. I cannot really taste the grilled flavour, I wished that the grilled flavour was stronger and it will make the pork more flavourful, and not just sweet honey.

My mother ordered the duck confit. I think the duck confit was the second best main dish for me. It is soft and tender and the meat just fall out of the bone. For this, then I am able to taste the grilled and pan fry flavour. I think I am looking at the charred taste and to be, for a meat to be nice, it must have the slight burn taste, to give the very slight bitterness of the skin. The marinate on the whole dish is also nice, it is not sweet, but well balanced.

My brother ordered the rack of lamb and this got to be my favourite main dish. I think if you follow my food review before, know that I love lamb with the gamey taste. I like the gamey taste and it must come with a layer of fat, and a good tender lamb meat at the bottom. I think this fit into the description of what I mentioned. As you can see the fat in the whole dish and it does have the gamey lamb taste and I loved that. I know that not alot of people can accept the gamey taste, but it is not the bad bad gamey taste. The sauce used here is similar with the one used in the duck confit. The meat is damn tender as well and it just fall off the bone too.

Overall, I think that the food is of a good quality, and it is really a good place to come by and spend some nice time, to just relax and soak in the vibe and just to hang out with family and friends.

We spend about $250 for 5 main dishes, 1 appetiser and 1 glass of wine.

I think it was okay, cause the lamb and the pork was about $40.
